Genre: Epic Composer: Thomas Bergersen Album: Battlecry
This is one surely one of the greatest musical pieces of the decade! This epic soundtrack (written by Thomas Bergersen of course) has a catchy melody with all that is necessary to make it truly epic. I could (I have) listened to this song hours on end and never get sick of it. This piece is simply sensational and outstanding. Please enjoy, because I know I did.
I just realized how often Mahito Yokota writes for Nintendo as well. He isn't in any of the classics and seemed to have appeared around the Super Mario Galaxy era. But this music that he wrote is pretty saucy. This is an amazing island beat and will have you bobbing to the beat. Dance and enjoy!
Genre: Rock / Video Game Score Composer: Phyrna Video Game: Epic Battle Fantasy 3
This game is mostly based on the Final Fantasy series. However, instead of being designed for the Playstation or Xbox, the Epic Battle Fantasy series is for the PC. I have played (and finished) this game but had no idea who wrote the music. However, the music that Phyrna wrote for this game is pretty awesome and pretty epic. So enjoy yourself immensely!
Genre: Epic Composer: Thomas Bergersen Album: Nero
I don't want to use a whole lot of words to describe this piece of sensational music. It's written by Thomas Bergersen so that must mean that is is good...very good! I'm going to let this music speak for itself.
Genre: Movie Score / Orchestral Composer: Alan Silvestri Movie: The Avengers
A masterpiece! A fabulous song, not written for just a single superhero but a group of elite superheroes. All the heroes are the best of the best! Just like this soundtrack. Please enjoy.
Genre: Rock / Video Game Score Composer: Crush 40 Video Game: Sonic Adventure 2
Oh yeah! Back again with Crush 40, the official band of the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. This song is so awesome and so catchy you'll never get it out of your head...for days!Mwuahahahahaha! But in all seriousness this is an awesome song and the theme of Sonic Adventure 2. I hope you enjoy it, because I know I definitely did!
Genre: Video Game Score / Orchestral Composer: Koji Kondo Video Game: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
I remember the first time I played this game. I knew it was going to be action-packed and full to the brim with adventure and daring quests. However, the soundtrack that started off the game was one that caught me by surprise. It was, well, rather calm and quiet. However, when I got into the mood of the track, I found it to be very beautiful and relaxing and I love the Ocarina playing its melody. It's like putting a cherry on top of a cake. Enjoy!
Genre: Classical / Piano Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven
I wouldn't be surprised if you tell me that you heard this piece. In fact, I would be rather shocked if you said you didn't! One of the greatest musical pieces written for the piano by one of the most famous composers of all time: Beethoven. We all know his name, and we (hopefully) all know this song. However, it is still a very nice song and I wanted to post it for sure.
Beethoven wrote Moonlight Sonata for a blind woman whom he had met. She wanted to know what the moon looked like so Beethoven gave her a way to see the moon through his music. And I think he succeeded, don't you?
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Koji Konod / Mahito Yokota Video Game: Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 64
This song was originally written for the first time for Super Mario 64 and then used in Super Mario Galaxy. However, both times this score is used, it is while you are playing in one of Bowser's worlds. Therefore, I give it the name Bowser's Theme and it definitely suits him as a villain. It's a pretty cool soundtrack and I hope you enjoy listening to it.
Genre: Movie Score, Orchestral Composer: Randy Newman Movie: A Bug's Life
So my younger siblings were watching this movie a while back. Not really that I cared much--that is until I heard the soundtrack of a particular part of the movie. And the part that especially stood out to me (and I got stuck inside my head) was the melody at 4:09. I'm whistling it right now as I post this!
I started off NCS by praising Elektronomia and his work... but completely forgot about OLWIK! I don't know how I did since he is just as good and (in my opinion) maybe even better. My favorite song written by him is called "Villain". It tells of a man who wakes up every morning and "Wishes the day would end.". Because the girl whom he loves is not with him anymore and he can not bear to wake up in the morning. One of the greatest NCS pieces overall. Enjoy!
I'm running out of good things to say for Hans Zimmer! He writes so much good music for movies, that the music never seems to run out!
However, one of my favorites of Hans Zimmer, is "Green Smoke" from the movie "The Rock". The theme is great and catchy and all in all is a great piece of music. Please enjoy!
Genre: Piano Composer: Dennis Kuo Album: Music For The Mind
In all seriousness, Dennis Kuo is an amazing artist. He writes beautiful music that can help in so many circumstances. I've listened to this song to help get to sleep, to study and to relax when my emotions boil. It's soothing and soft. Breathe in a sigh of relief and contentment when you listen to this song.
Genre: Video Game Music Composer: Mahito Yokota Video Game: Super Mario Galaxy
Ah yes, how music changes when the intensity increases. The Speedy Comet is nothing short of an intense piece and is foreshadowing great danger. High pressure situation call for dangerous and intense music. This music is one of my favorite's of the game and is nice to listen to. Please enjoy!
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Koji Kondo / MahitoYokota Video Game: Super Mario Bros. 3 / Super Mario Galaxy
1. Original Overworld Theme 2 (Koji Kondo)
2. Blue Sky Athletics (Mahito Yokota)
One of the classic Super Mario tunes is heard in Super Mario Bros. 3. This music was written in 1988 by Koji Kondo. Like most Super Mario overwold themes, the music is bright, cheerful and pleasant to listen to. Once this song is in your head, you can't get it out.
While the original version is nice, I like what Mahito Yokota did with the tune in Super Mario Galaxy, using more modern instruments and technology. I don't know which I'd prefer. You choose. Comment down below your choice.
Genre: Epic Composer: Thomas Bergersen Album: Skyworld
The piece starts off with a bit of a different instrument, one that is not commonly heard in the epic genre and especially Thomas Bergersen's music. However, it seems Bergersen wanted to step out of his comfort zone and create something unique. At first listen, this may sound different. However, Thomas Bergersen makes it work out in the end with an awesome melody and makes it into an amazing piece of music. Enjoy!
Genre: Piano Composer: Ludovico Einaudi Album: Una Mattina
This song is simply sensational. It is an absolutely beautiful and peaceful song and one of my favorite ones to learn on the piano. So much so, that I still frequently play it to this day. But this isn't Ludovico Einaudi's only song and he has other great ones as well some of which I'll probably post later. Stay tuned and enjoy Nuvole Bianche because I know I did.
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Koji Kondo Video Game: Super Mario Galaxy I
With a strong beginning and a great melody beginning at 0:56 it's a great way to start off the game. An astounding piece of music and worth a listen. There's lots more to come from this soon. Please enjoy!
Genre: Movie Score Composer: John Murphy Movie: Sunshine
This song follows the pattern of one of the most famous chord processions in the world. However, the fact that it is simple does not take away from its beauty. John Murphy perfects it in the movie Sunshine. Sometimes, the simplest of things are the most beautiful of things.
Genre: Epic Composer: Thomas Bergersen Album: Classics Volume 1 / Two steps from Heaven
This piece is undoubtedly and undeniably one of the greatest pieces of music in the world (in my opinion). I describe this as the "perfect song". It's exactly what you would learn to expect from Thomas Bergersen.
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Koji Kondo Video Game: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Another piece from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and also another piece written by Koji Kondo. This score is played in an area near Gerudo Valley but instead of a hot desert beat, it has a mysterious and a bit of a creepy spiritual theme to it. Twinrova are the two witch sisters of the Spirit Temple. who are named Koume and Kotake and often quarrel among themselves. But when they come together, they're definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Genre: Video Game Score, Rock, Orchestral Composer: Zebrahead, Crush 40, Hideaki Kobayashi, Tomoya Ohtani, Mariko Nanba, Taihei Sato, Takahito Eguchi
1. His World Original (Zebrahead)
2. His World Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 Theme (Hideaki Kobayashi)
3. His World Remix (Crush 40)
4. Solaris Phase 2: His World Orchestral Remix (Hideaki Kobayashi)
5. His World Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 Theme Version 2 (Hideaki Kobayashi, Tomoya Ohtani, Mariko Nanba, Taihei Sato, Takahito Eguchi
I can't believe there are five versions of this song! But hey, you can never get enough of a good thing? Or am I wrong (like usual)?
Of all video game icons I am the biggest fan of Sonic The Hedgehog. Although he is but a shadow (Only sonic fans would know this pun) of his former self and his video games aren't exactly the best, you can always rely on his games to give us good music. I recommend these pieces in the following order: The original version by Zebrahead, the main theme second version, the main theme by Hideaki Kobayashi, then Solaris Phase 2 orchestral version. I wouldn't recommend the Crush 40 version but I wanted to make it the full package... so please enjoy.
Genre: Movie Score Composer: Hans Zimmer Movie: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Yet another movie score written by Hans Zimmer (and that's not a bad thing). Although Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron wasn't the most highly recognized movie in the world at its time, the music was written by Hans Zimmer so.... I have to put it in. And rightly so. This is undoubtedly one of Zimmer's best works as it best gives you the feeling of a horse, wild and free. This piece is amazing, oustanding and beautiful. One of my personal favorites for sure. Hope you enjoy!
NCS (No Copyright Sounds) is definitely my favorite group that specializes in EDM. While there are artists such as Tobu, Jim Yosef and Alan Walker I wanted to start it off by presenting my favorite artist Elektronomia. This is in my opinion his best piece yet and he promises that there is more on the way.
I played this song in our High School Band. The piece wasn't very difficult but nonetheless, it was definitely enjoyable. It's a great simple piece that will keep you cheerful throughout your day.
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Koji Kondo Game: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Being a huge Legend of Zelda fan and especially with Ocarina of Time, one of my favorite tracks in the game was that of Gerudo Valley. The valley is located at the edge of the desert. The location as well as the music is a favorite among Zelda fans. With fast paced beat and a desert melody this piece is one of the greats in my books.
This piece is definitely special and unique. Just listening to it gives you a feeling of intergalactic vibes. The feeling that you are in your spaceship flying to an unknown planet. I have never heard another song like this one. It's out of this world!
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Koji Kondo Video Game: Super Mario 64
In all honesty, I never knew Koji Kondo wrote so much music for the video games produced by Nintendo! I've just come realize all the music he wrote and how I grew up listening to it every day while playing these games.
Dire Dire Docks is a water level in Super Mario 64. The theme to Dire Dire Docks is one that is calm and gives you a feeling that you're underwater in an aquatic wonderland. The score is simple, but still very soothing to listen to. Please enjoy!
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Kenta Negata Video Game: Mario Kart 64
There is no specific title to this song so I only call it the "Mario Kart Credits". Not only do I like this song it also has its memories for me. Mario Kart 64 was the first game I played and finished. It was really hard to complete the game at the highest level, especially at five years old. However, when I did finally complete the game, I was rewarded with listening to this rewarding music along with a view of all the race tracks. I would restart the game and finish it over and over again just so that I could hear this tune. That is, until Youtube and SoundCloud became a thing.
Genre: Rock / Piano / Video Game Score Composer: Crush 40 Video Game: Shadow The Hedgehog
1. First 40 seconds (Piano)
2. Full Song (Rock)
I don't mind the rock part of this song and I wouldn't highly recommend it, but I absolutely love the piano solo for the first 40 seconds. When I went to find sheet music, it was disappointing that there was none (probably because Shadow The Hedgehog is not a very popular video game) so I had to listen to it and slowly and painstakingly write it down on MuseScore and print it off from there. Completely worth the effort! Enjoy!
Genre: Movie Score Composer: James Newton Howard Movie: Treasure Planet
Although Treasure Planet didn't get the publicity that the film makers wanted (and almost made Disney bankrupt), it's music did not go unnoticed. This a fabulous piece of music especially when the trumpets play loud and clear at 1:08 and my favorite brass instrument the French Horn follows soon after. By far the best part of the score. Enjoy!
Genre: Video Game Score Composer: Nobuo Uematsu Video Game: Final Fantasy IX
Ah Zorn and Thorn. The twin jesters who seem to cause nothing but trouble in Final Fantasy 9. This entire piece is a musical synonym for the word: mischievous. Just listen to it and you'll hear what I mean.
Genre: Piano / Strings Composer: Dennis Kuo Album: All-Nighter
Every Eternity is a relaxing and soothing song and is excellent music for helping one to study or get to sleep. The melody is absolutely amazing and leaves you lost somewhere above the clouds. The song is written by Dennis Kuo who specializes in writing Study Music for his Study Music Project.
Genre: Movie Score Composer: Hans Zimmer Movie: The Lion King
The animated Disney Classic The Lion King was originally going to a second-rate movie with none of the best animators, directors or composers taking part in making it. Not only did the animators, directors and writers achieve great success in this movie, but so did Hans Zimmer who wrote a fabulous score for this movie. Without what he wrote, this movie would not have been anywhere near the same as it is today. Nothing less than what you would expect from Hans Zimmer.
This song I heard in a very unpopular game by a very unpopular artist. So it was luck that I ended hearing this piece and actually started to ignore it the first couple times I heard it. Although the melody is simple and the drums are a bit too emphatic in some parts the basic and slow chord progressions sound very nice and I hope nubbinownz gets some of the credit that he is due. This song also reminded me of my childhood especially at 2:10.
Another great song from the epic music group: Two Steps From Hell. This is my favorite score from the group and gives me very strong Pirates of the Caribbean vibes. The piece is short and barely over a minute, however, there is a lot of awesomeness packed into this short score which makes it all the more enjoyable. You'll have to listen to it several times over if you want go through the full experience.
Genre: Video Game Score / Orchestral Composer: Koji Kondo Video Game: Super Mario Galaxy I
I came upon this song about a month ago by complete accident. I'm definitely not the biggest Super Mario fan but this piece was irresistible. The main theme that kicks in at 1:25 is nothing short of perfection. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
In all honesty, I wasn't sure about posting this. But hey, why not? I don't know why I am posting this but it is most likely because I couldn't help but dance to this song for hours. I'm going to let this piece of music speak for itself.
Genre: Classic Composer: Gustav Holst Album: The Planets
Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity is a classic piece written by Gustav Holst between 1914-1916 and contains a jolly main theme but also includes a beautiful hymn in between. Thankfully, I had the pleasure of playing this in our school band.
Genre: Movie Score
Composers: Hans Zimmer / Klaus Badelt
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Written by Klaus Badelt and my favorite composer of all time, Hans Zimmer, the megamix from the Curse of the Black Pearl is an absolutely sensational piece of music. My favorite piece of music out of any music score. I could whistle this whole soundtrack because I've listened to it so many times.
Genre: Movie Score
Composer: John Powell
Movie: How To Train Your Dragon
Played these two selections together as one large score as a school band. It took us a long time to tame this one, but totally worth it. Easily one of my favorite movie scores of all time.
A superb song written by one of my favorite composers of all time: Thomas Bergersen. An epic score and will keep you listening the entire time...and keep you pressing the repeat button over and over again.
Most of my life has revolved around music. I started playing the Piano at around age 6 and still continue to enjoy playing it to this day. I play percussion in my school band and have had several experiences with multiple woodwind instruments and the guitar. Composing music has always been an amusing pastime of mine especially when writing orchestral music. But also I enjoy writing for individual instruments, mostly the piano.
Throughout the years, as I as growing up, I am finding new genre's and different types of music from hundreds of different artists. However, after finding many great groups, it became hard to find good music. So, I've decided to make this blog so that I can have all the music I love on one page and at the same time I can share it with others too. (And you can share music with me too!)
